Rex Cinema News

The REX goes DIGITAL!

The UK Film Council has offered the Rex Cinema the opportunity to buy a second-hand digital cinema system (originally worth £60,000) for £16,000 including a new lens, lamp and installation.  The Rex currently screens 35mm films but these are getting increasingly hard to source as most of the large cinema chains move over to digital.  This equipment would also allow the Rex to screen live events.  It will, of course, keep the existing projector for 35mm films.  It has been agreed to take up the Film Council's offer and fund raising is now under way to pay for the new equipment.

Film Noir Season

Introduced on stage by John Foster from the Media School of Bournemouth University.  An ongoing series of 'film noir' showing monthly on Sunday evenings.  After a short summer break the series will resume in the autumn.

Bollywood Events

Sunday afternoon screenings in association with the Asian Women's Association.  The best of Bollywood and tasty Indian snacks in the interval.  Back again after the summer.

Update on Purbeck Film Academy 2011

As many are aware, we held extremely successful Film Academy events in 2007 and 2009.  The standard of work has been amazing, and the enthusiasm and dedication of all who took part was astounding.  As the Academy is held every other year, we are hoping to be able to raise money in order to stage another exciting Film Academy event this year.  The Trust is currently applying for funding to make this possible and we will announce the outcome as soon as possible.  If you would like further details about the Children's Film Academy or to obtain a copy of the dvd containing all the childen's films from past years, then please contact Andrea Etherington, Chair of the Purbeck Film Festival and Head of the CFA, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you are able to kindly support the Children's Film Academy in any way, or would like to become a sponsor, please also contact Andrea Etherington.
