“I’ll never go sailing again!â€

So said one of the packed audience watching WHITE SQUALL at Swanage Sailing Club on Sunday 24th.  The film was based on a true story and followed a group of teenage boys as they set sail on the school sailing ship the ‘Albatross’.  What started out as a mix of sun, sea and Shakespeare turned into a life-threatening encounter with a 'white squall' with disastrous consequences.  Swanage Bay will look like a millpond to intrepid local sailors after this screening.

Tea and Topiary at the Orchard Tea Room

A warm welcome was extended by Holme for Gardens at two packed films in the tea room.  After a tasty supper and a drink or two the audience was taken to the allotments of Liverpool and discovered the power of squash soup, very appropriate in view of the pumpkin festival at Holme on Saturday 23rd.  The following night the enchanting tale of Edward Scissorhands (our cover star) was told.  Look out for a sudden outburst of surreal topiary around Purbeck as filmgoers inspired by the film wield their shears.

Film Festival Quiz 2010

We are delighted to announce our first winner of the 2010 festival quiz.  David W from Hamworthy handed in his completed Quiz form with all the right answers and has chosen tickets for ‘Les Parapluies de Cherbourg’ as his prize.
Keep on coming with those completed forms!
No.22  B…T  seems to be causing a bit of a problem for some!  It is a sneaky one as it is in fact the English title of a 1948 Italian masterpiece.

India comes to Stoborough

The twinkling lights hung over the village hall entrance for a true Bollywood-style welcome.  Inside, the hall was packed with a chattering audience who had come to see the Bollywood film ‘3 IDIOTS’ - the most successful Indian film ever made; breaking all box office records.
The film, with its clever comedy and music, also had a serious side as it tackled the provocative issues of stress on students to fulfill their parents’ ambitions for them and the oppressiveness of competitive higher education.  The main character, Rancho, was played by the great Indian actor, Aamir Khan – hard to believe this energetic student was 45 years old!
In the intermission a selection of the most delicious Indian snacks was served – plenty for everyone – and the Kingfisher Beer and the Chili Ice Cream from Purbeck Ice Cream went down well too!
It was a great start for the Purbeck Film Festival and many thanks to the team at Stoborough for putting on such a good show – they also donated over £100-00 to start off the Rex Cinema fund to ‘GO DIGITAL’

In the words of Rancho:  ‘don’t lose sight of what matters in the pursuit of success’ and ‘AAL IZZ WELL’
