Purbeck Film Festival is looking for a volunteer Honorary Secretary to join our board and help support the governance of one of Dorset’s most loved cultural organisations.

As we continue to bring inspiring film experiences to communities across Purbeck and beyond, we’re looking for someone who can help ensure the charity is well organised, compliant, and able to focus on delivering a fantastic festival year after year.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to contribute their professional skills to an exciting local charity while helping to shape its future.

What does the role involve?

The Honorary Secretary plays a key role in supporting the Board of Trustees and ensuring good governance. Responsibilities include:

  • Organising and coordinating board meetings throughout the year.
  • Preparing and distributing meeting agendas and papers.
  • Taking and maintaining accurate minutes and records of board decisions.
  • Supporting compliance with charity and company law requirements.
  • Maintaining statutory records and key governance documents.
  • Assisting with annual filings and regulatory obligations.
  • Acting as a point of contact between trustees and helping ensure effective communication.

You do not need to be a film expert to take on this role. We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Organised and methodical.
  • Comfortable handling documents and records.
  • A good communicator.
  • Interested in supporting a local cultural charity.
  • Able to commit a few hours each week, with slightly more involvement around board meetings and annual reporting periods.

Experience in governance, administration, legal, Honorary secretarial, charity, or business support roles would be helpful but is not essential. We will provide support and a warm welcome to the right person.

Why volunteer with Purbeck Film Festival?

As Honorary Secretary you’ll become part of a passionate team dedicated to bringing culture, creativity and community together through film. You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Make a valuable contribution to a respected local festival.
  • Develop your governance and leadership experience.
  • Work alongside enthusiastic and welcoming trustees and volunteers.
  • Help ensure the long term success of a much loved community organisation.

If you’d like to use your skills to support access to amazing films and make a positive impact across our local communities, we’d love to hear from you.

To express an interest, please send your CV and a brief covering letter to Chair@purbeckfilm.com
