Everybody To Kenmure Street
Director: Felipe Bustos Sierra
Starring: (voice of) Emma Thompson, Tabassum Niamat, Aamer Anwar
Rating: 12A
Documentary | UK | 2026 | 1 hr 35 mins
A prescient film about the strength to be found in even the most impoverished areas of the UK, this documentary highlights an incident in the run-down Scottish suburb of Pollockshields in 2001 when the local public came together to thwart a Home Office Immigration raid by surrounding the government van. By the end of the incident, up to a thousand citizens were involved.
Footage from the day, captured on mobile phones, is interwoven with interviews of those who were there. The film also traces the heritage of civil disobedience and Immigration in Glasgow.
High-spirited, witty and immovably stubborn, this is direct action done Scottish-style with some truly imaginative insults hurled at the authorities.
A film sure to cause discussion at our current political fork-in-the-road.
