An extramarital affair becomes emblematic of an entire countryโs malaise in this long anticipated and painfully prescient film, set amidst the war on our doorstep.ย
Russian businessman Glebโs logistics company is failing as his workers are sloughed off to be fodder for the Ukrainian war. Meanwhile, his wife Galina keeps receiving phone calls and her face lights up at strange text messages.
The personal is a microcosm for the political as this excoriating drama lays bare the corruption, brutality and paranoia inherent in Glebโs society. Understated, inexorable and powerful, it wowed the critics at Cannes last Spring, where it won the Grand Prix.ย
