Director: Mariano Cohn, Gastón Duprat
Starring: Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, Oscar Martínez
Comedy | Drama | Spain | Argentina | 2021
1 hr 55 mins | Subtitles

In this playful satire of the movie industry Penélope Cruz is cast as Lola Cuevas, an eccentric, superstar film director, who is starting rehearsals for her new film – an adaptation of a prize-winning novel about the rivalry between two brothers. One brother Felix (Antonio Banderas) is played by a global movie star and the other Ivan (Oscar Martínez) by a respected stage actor and both have an immediate and visceral dislike of each other. It has been described as a film which dismantles the lofty ambitions of cinema as great, important and significant, blending scabrous honesty and self-skewering silliness and showing us cinema as art for ego’s sake while having a lot of wickedly spiteful fun as it does so.
