The late great Tina Turner’s classic songs provide the backbone for this energetic musical comedy drama from debut director Dionne Edwards. It stars Alexandra Burke, fresh from her hugely successful run with Sister Act in the West End, who is outstanding as Candice, a singer about to land the role of a lifetime as Tina Turner in a musical.
Her troubled but sensitive partner Travis, just released from prison, buys Candice a shimmering red dress for her audition – to which he slowly develops a powerful attraction. This film is a true original, avoiding the usual clichés of London dramas to create something fresh and completely uplifting.
