Scent of a Woman (15)
Director: Martin Brest
Starring: Al Pacino, Chris O’Donnell, Gabrielle Anwar
Drama | USA | 1992 | 2 hrs 36 min
One of Al Pacino’s greatest roles as retired Lt-Colonel Slade, blinded through an accident, losing his way of life as well as his sight. Pacino deservedly won Best Actor Oscar. Chris Donnelly gives an equally good performance as the schoolboy paid to escort Slade to New York so Slade can have a good time before making a fateful decision. Succeeding on an emotional and an intellectual level, there are great moments, relished in the enthusiastic reviews: the tango scene, the original and wildly funny monologues, the Ferrari drive, with a stirring script which evokes laughter and tears, anger and empathy.
