The Eight Mountains (12A) | The Rex

£6.00£8.50

Director: Felix van Groeningen, Charlotte Vandermeersch
Starring: Lupo Barbiero, Cristiano Sassella, Elena Lietti
Drama | Italy | 2022
2 hrs 27 mins | Subtitles

The Eight Mountains is a beautiful and realistic portrayal of the friendship between two 12-year-old boys (Pietro and Bruno) as they grow up and mature. Motivated by very different values, neither friend is able to talk about their feelings and about their separate struggles in making the most of their lives. Set in the Italian Alpine valley of Aosta, the cinematography is quite breathtaking. However, the “eight mountains” of the title refers to the eight highest peaks of Nepal, the conquering of which symbolises the struggle of human achievement.

The Purbeck Film Festival is very grateful to Battens Charitable Trust, whose support will make this a very special evening.

The filmmakers’ achievement is a stunning reflection on our capacity for love, and how it is shaped by childhood and the passing of time. A memorable and exceptional piece of cinema.
