This heart-warming Indian film is in the tradition of the classic Cinema Paradiso. Like that film, it has a young boy – here it is the impoverished 9-year-old Samay – becoming entranced with the power of cinema and befriending the local projectionist. In this case, however, Samay decides watching is not enough and decides to make a film of his own. A film as utterly bewitched by cinema as its lead character – and clearly grieving over the death of old celluloid projection – it bursts with the colour, light and sensuousness of rural India. The Last Film Show celebrates cinema while simultaneously embodying great cinema.
