Wicker is a folksy and darkly comic fantasy that turns one lonely woman’s search for love into something truly fantastical. In a small seaside village, a solitary fisherwoman, played with the usual spiky compassion by Olivia Colman, is mocked for still being unmarried, so she commissions a local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage) to create her a husband from wicker. The community is thrown into disarray when her newly fabricated spouse (an incredible performance by Alexander Skarsgard) becomes the object of desire and jealousy in the village. Based on a short story by fantasy writer Ursula Wills-Jones , Wicker is an extraordinary love story unlike anything you have seen before.
“The directors’ know that even the most fantastical must feel close and emotionally real. Wicker, thankfully, is as real as it gets.” Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com
