2023 Volunteer Opportunities
The Purbeck Film Festival is seeking reliable volunteers who are dedicated and passionate about making our events a success. We run a series of highly popular outdoor cinema events in the spring and summer plus a two week film-packed festival at the end of October (Friday 20th October to Saturday 4th November 2023).
The opportunities available are:
Audio Visual Technical Team
Technicians are key to a smooth running screening and are responsible for the transportation, setup and operating of all equipment in particular projectors, sound systems and screens for each of our venues. This can be a very physical role and involves lifting and carrying, loading and unloading of all equipment into vehicles. Experience is not necessary as training will be given but a knowledge of technical equipment an advantage and a positive, calm can-do attitude essential. Availability of a van for festival use would be very welcome but not a requirement.
Event Usher
At our satellite venues, Event Ushers will be the face of the Purbeck Film Festival and often the duty manager of the film screening. This role involves greeting customers, checking tickets, selling tickets, showing customers to their seats (when necessary), handing out and collecting-in of surveys, putting up signage, banners and flags. Where we have extra special events, Ushers will be called upon to serve canapés and drinks. Ushers may also be required to introduce a film and a speaker (where necessary), help the technical team to set up, put out and pack away chairs and tables plus any other task required to make a film event a success.
Leaflet Distributors
Even in a digital world, printed publications are still very important to our customers. We print 15,000 film guides that need to be distributed in September and October to an array of different venues throughout Purbeck, Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester and wider Dorset. Venues include cafés, restaurants, art galleries, museums, libraries, schools, colleges, shops, public buildings, the film venues themselves and any other venues that are willing to take our film guides.
Runners
We need volunteers that can be the link between events on the night. Often there is something that needs collecting and delivering to a venue or an extra pair of hands is needed to help out somewhere. This person would need to be flexible, have a car and be willing to pick up any urgent request as and when it arises.
Food and Drink Hospitality Team
Be part of our ever popular outdoor events by helping out in our food and drink tents. We run a small bar alongside a refreshment and snack stall which is essential to our festival fundraising. We are looking for volunteers who like to serve customers with a smile but don’t mind mucking in to set up the tent, help move stock around and keeping the area clean and tidy. This role can be quite pressurised at times and will involve standing for much of the first part of the event. Please note volunteers must be 18 and above to serve alcohol.
Marketing Team
In the run-up to events we will need extra hands to help promote each and every film. If you have marketing experience and would like to support our small team to update our website and social media channels, please contact us.
